When a past client reached out to us to remodel their master bath, they sought something that felt more like them. Their existing bathroom was divided into separate zones and designed with a traditional look that no longer fit their mid-century modern style. They envisioned a space that was open, functional, and true to the character of their home.

Legacy Builders Group partnered with these homeowners in a repeat performance, resulting in a bathroom remodel that reimagined the entire layout, replacing walls with light and flow.

Cincinnati Master Bath Remodel with a Mid-Century Modern Edge

We're so honored that these returning clients trusted us to bring their next vision to life. The original bathroom layout was cramped and closed off, with walls separating the vanity and tub area from the shower and toilet. It functioned, but it didn’t inspire.

The goal was to start fresh with a bathroom design that felt timeless yet distinctly mid-century modern. Every detail, from the cabinetry to the lighting, now balances warmth and simplicity. Walnut wood brings natural texture, black accents add contrast, and the open plan invites light to flow through the entire space. What was once divided now feels cohesive, comfortable, and unmistakably custom.

Opening Up the Layout for Light and Flow

Removing the walls between the shower, toilet, and vanity areas completely changed how the room feels. Where the old layout broke the space into small sections, the new design embraces openness. The large window now floods the entire bath with natural light, reflecting across the tile and highlighting the warm wood tones of the custom vanities.

One of this bathroom project’s small but significant challenges involved raising the window above the toilet to allow room for the new tub wall. The adjustment kept the proportions just right while maintaining privacy and light.

Custom Walnut Vanities Define the Space

Crafted specifically for the space, custom walnut vanities anchor the design with warmth and a strong mid-century presence. The clean lines, flat-front drawers, and rich wood grain bring an organic contrast to the otherwise sleek finishes. Each vanity was built to fit the exact wall dimensions, giving the room a sense of purpose and polish that prefabricated cabinetry could never achieve.

Topped with thin quartz counters, the vanities maintain a light, contemporary profile while offering generous storage. Minimal framed mirrors hang above each sink, paired with slim horizontal lighting that casts even illumination without distraction.

This kind of attention to detail is what makes projects like this worth the investment, especially once you understand how bathroom remodel costs can vary depending on materials, layout changes, and level of customization.

Doorless Shower Design with 3D Tile Drama

The new shower stands as a statement piece in the room. It's bold in scale, but subtle in detail. The clients specifically requested a shower without a door for easy maintenance and a cleaner look, so Legacy Builders Group designed this luxurious nook. Large-format 3D tile stretches from floor to ceiling, wrapping the walls in texture that shifts with the light. The result is a surface that looks like a single sculpted piece rather than separate panels.

Practicality was equally important. We positioned the shower controls near the entry, so there’s no need to step inside to start the water. Overhead, a recessed can/fan light keeps the ceiling uncluttered while providing efficient ventilation.

A Freestanding Tub Anchored by Texture and Light

Set beneath the window, the freestanding tub becomes a sculptural centerpiece framed by natural light. Its placement was intentional, slightly off-center to balance the symmetry of the vanities while keeping the sightline open from every angle. The surrounding wall was finished with the same large-format tile used in the shower, stacked vertically to draw the eye upward and emphasize the room’s height. Each tile catches light differently, giving the surface a subtle movement that adds depth without distraction.

A quartz cap along the top of the tub wall ties the design together and adds a crisp architectural line. Black plumbing fixtures stand out against the soft neutral tile, creating contrast that feels refined rather than stark. The tub itself offers a quiet moment of luxury, grounded by warm tones and the natural rhythm of the space.

Subtle Storage and Functional Touches

Behind expertly executed simplicity lies careful planning. Floating shelves tucked beside the toilet offer discreet storage for everyday essentials, while two recessed wall cabinets keep the countertops clear without interrupting the visual flow. The layout ensures everything has its place, yet nothing feels cluttered or overdesigned.

Legacy Builders Group also included thoughtful functional upgrades that make the space more comfortable. A recessed can/fan combination in the shower provides both light and ventilation in one sleek fixture, maintaining the room’s clean ceiling lines.
